I’m interested in comparing and contrasting different approaches to landscape-scale conservation in the face of habitat conversion and climate change. My dissertation research will be based on on-going conservation efforts in the eastern cordillera of the Andean mountains, Colombia. I will be examining how the umbrella species approach currently utilized by major NGOs in the region (focused on the Andean bear) compares to Conserving Nature’s Stage (which emphasizes the maintenance of abiotic diversity). I am in the ICON program and am co-advised by Nate Nibbelink.
