Dr. Cooper has been a professor for nearly thirty years, beginning his career at Humboldt State University, then moving to University of Memphis and finally winding up back at the University of Georgia, where he began studying Wildlife in 1970. He has been an author of over a hundred peer-reviewed publications, as well as authoring books, chapters, monographs, and other documents. Since beginning his career at UGA, he as received over $2 million dollars in grants, and received numerous awards for teaching and creative research. He has been involved with large scale conservation projects, collaborated with research and managers across a wide range of sites, and mentored countless graduate and undergraduate students.
